Sun Beams On My Face

Though I know I shouldn't,
I walk barefoot through the grass
as the sun beams on my face
Music and laughter and tears
float from around me
in and out of my ears
I see the sad painted smiles on faces all around
a splash of color
Faces beam back to the sun
glowing with sad joy
This is now and forever my home
and will forever be my dreams
what I want to live by
surrounded by
submerged is

as the sun beams down on me

And Then I Lay My Head Back

And then I lay my head back
in the cool green grass
And all I could see was
the blue sky and rays of sun
And I was breathing deeply
and I closed my eyes
and I thought hard
I thought of the sun beams soaking into my skin
I imagined it was raining
drops hitting my forehead- pitter patter
Sitting in a tree top
on top of the world
the wind blowing in my face
The beach in Maine
with calm waves and smooth rocks and sand between my toes
I was playing my cello
hearing the melody spilling out of my fingers
I was singing on stage
And then, I started to feel the magic
The magic you feel when you are on a hay bale in a field
watching the sun go down
Alone or with someone who is special to you
You feel the magic I started to feel as I felt
the cool grass come back
And I opened my eyes and the sky was dark
and I was wide awake and as light as a feather
For I had truly melted into the earth

Well, I guess you can take a rain storm on your 14th birthday one of two ways. You can be all sad and depressed, and mope around all day hoping for the rays of sunshine you know will never come. Or, you can think of the storm as a party. You can think that the earth is celebrating for you. The trees are dancing and singing with the wind and the clouds are laughing thunder and dropping rain drops of confetti to let everyone know it is a special day.

Sledding

Here is a video I made of me, my brother Rowan and my neighbor sledding in her backyard. This was the weekend we had three feet of snow and ended up haveing a five day weekend! We had so much fun building jumps in the snow (and crashing into the tree at the bottom). Enjoy!

My toes wiggle in my shoes

My fingers pinch the rubbery red track
My heart thumps in my chest
My ears ring from the whistle blow
My mind races- what do I do next?

My brain says freeze
My heart says fly

So I let go of the rubbery red track
and I fly away leaving everything
behind until it all comes back when

My ears ring from the crowd cheering
My feet pound against the track
I am slowing down
My brain says stop I'm tired
My heart says you're almost there
You can do it

So I fly once more
And its all over
I am done
My heart was right

Some People

There are always those people in life. The ones you can not see for months and yet you still manage to lie on the floor dying of laughter for hours. The ones you could spend an entire day just talking about all the memories you share. They are truly the only people that you can smash your lemon raspberry birthday cake into your face with and then start crying and laughing at the same time because bits of lemon are dripping into your eyes from your eye lashes. The only ones who think it is absolutely hilarious that you can't say "I live in an anemone" while squeezing your cheeks together. Or lie in your hammock writing songs about the most random things and choreographing hour long dance recitals for your parents. Or there are the people who you see every day. The ones who are listed as your sisters on Facebook. The ones who know every little secret you have but would never tell a soul. The ones who you have your own language with because of all your inside jokes. The ones who you spend half of your life with and somehow manage to never get sick of. They are the only people you would willingly go dancing in the pouring rain in the middle of the woods in pajamas, or sleep in a bug infested tree house with only three walls. It is amazing when you realize how special these people are to you and how lucky you are to have them in your life. Realizing how crazy it is that you can live with them for so long, or without them for so long. "A friend is a person who knows all about you but likes you anyway." "The only rose without a thorn is friendship." "Or rather friship because our friendship with have no end."

Waiting

I walk quickly down to the road
wanting to skip with joy
wanting to run and get it over with
wanting melt, disappear
not having to move on

I wait and wait
fingers tap
toes wiggle
always late on the first day

Finally, the roaring bus
screeches to a stop
breaking my dreams of
running, skipping, melting
once again returning me

kicking the leaves
two cars pass
then another
blue, red, yellow

I look to the trees
the newly turning leaves
make me smile
green to yellow
yellow to orange
orange to red, my favorite

They seem to match
my contentment
of being happy where I am
for what I have in my life

The sky is clear
blues, pinks, oranges,
I see the red sun rising over the hills
swarms of little black birds
float carelessly through the colors

But then, the roaring bus
screeches to a stop
pulling me back
returning me

and kick the leaves
one car passes
then another
both are gray

I stare up at the trees
my favorite red leaves are gone
they went so fast
sounds familiar

Above the trees are clouds
thin, white, wispy, thin
then, they are gone
so quickly
sounds familiar

Stop it! Slow down!
I stomp on the leaves at my feet
how can one be expected to grow up entirely
in just an instant
suddenly moving on to something else?
I need more time
I’m not finished yet

Then, the roaring bus
screeches to a stop
breaking my thoughts
pulling me back
returning me

I walk down to the road

all is quiet
all is dark
no cars pass today

I don’t look to the leaves or clouds
I know they are not there
they left me so fast
like everything else
everything is all just the same

Why did they go so fast?
How do they do that?
Maybe I should too

but everyone else does

slush sticking to my feet
the driveway is patterned with leaves
piled with snow
just little lumps of white

I look to the trees again
each branch coated in icy snow
almost see through
like a sugar glaze

the leaves and clouds, everyone
slips away so fast for a reason
they have to move on
grow up
change into something
even more beautiful

But then the roaring bus
screeches to a stop
breaking my thoughts
pulling me back
returning me

This time I don’t mind.

As you run your hand through the tree branches
dripping more water drops on your head
You wonder how when everyone is bored, hot, and annoyed with the “stupid weather”
How you can feel so alive
So complete
So fully satisfied
Out of breath from dancing in the downpour
And yearning for the warm, soft, secure blue towel
lying inside for you
And yet, you are so content
More than content
You are fully connected to the earth
and your mind is wide open to the universe

Hello everyone!!! My name is Audrey and I love to write, make movies, take photography, play cello, sing........ anything that expresses creativity. I am excited to get my creations out to the world and share my artwork. I am almost 14 years old so I am in 8th grade. I have been playing cello for 3 1/2 years and I absolutely love singing.
